Growing Plants

Workers are not represented as cold numbers but as living objects that need to be taken care of in order to grow: instead of displaying the work rates of FC workers as a number, our speculative design represents this information as a planting process.
As long as work rates remain at a humane level, the virtual plants on the workstation monitor would continue to grow. If the work rate becomes excessive in a way that hinders the worker’ wellness level, the plants would stop growing. In addition, actual plants would be brought into the FCs and would grow together with the virtual plants. The actual plants blooming in the FCs would provide fresh air and improve the work environment by increasing humidity levels, decreasing the amount of dust particles, and adding greenery to the workplace.
How can FC workers benefit from the labor data that Amazon currently collects and monopolizes?

The gardening icons are used to remind workers to take breaks and care for their bodies on a regular basis.

Cloudy = work at an inhumane level
